Elke Erb

poetess, translator

Elke Erb, a poetess, a translator, was born in 1938 in Scherbach. Later she moved to Halle village in DDR. In 1958/59 she worked in the field. In 1963 Elke passed teaching exams. During 1963 1965 was involved into publishing. Since 1966 works as a free writer. Elke writes prose, lyrics and procedural texts: “Winkelzüge oder Nicht vermutete, aufschlußreiche Verhältnisse” (1991). Her last works are: “Die crux” (Prosa, 2003), „Gänsesommer” (poems and prose, 2005), “Sonanz”? 2008, all published by Urs Engeler Editor.

Life facts:

1938, born on the 18th of February in Scherbach– father is a free writer, mother is a housewife.

1946-49 – Catholic national school in Neukirchen.

December 1949 – moved to Halle (DDR) – primary and secondary school.

1957-58 – studied pedagogy, history, Germanistic studies at the Martin Luther university.

1958-59 – field works Iden .

1959-63 – pedagogy, Russian and German at the university. First literay works.

1963-66 –volunteer works, lecturing on middle German dialects in Halle. Contacts Heinz Czechowski, Sarah und Rainer Kirsch.

1965 (summer) – 1966 (spring) – works on psychotherapy.

1966 – free writer. Removal to Berlin. First reviews, reviews of Russian dramaturgy and belles-lettres for publishing hosuse.

1967 – contacts with Erich Arendt, Adolf Endler, Karl Mickel, Fritz Mierau.

1968 – publishing of first works.

1968-78 – marriage with Adolf Endler.

1969 – “100 days in Georgia” together with Adolf Endler і Rainer Kirsch. Business trips to Georgia.

1970 – first translations (Oleksandr Blok).

1970 – country house purchase in Wuischke.

1971 – son Conrad’s birth.

1970-72 – work at the puppet theater.

1975 – Gutachten debut collection.

1982 – 86 – participation in the international poetic festival in Rotterdam.

1992 – four weeks grant in Bordo.
